Dear Dar al Hijrah Community,
On Sunday, June 18, 2017, there was a town hall meeting at the masjid concerning the recent controversy about my lecture last month. Many of you took the time despite your busy schedules to participate in the meeting and voice your opinions. First, I want to thank you all for speaking frankly, firmly and truthfully about your concerns and views. I am humbled by the overwhelming support expressed by you during these past two weeks and especially during the meeting. This meeting was proof that our community is mature and willing to stand for the truth, and that makes me proud to be among you.
Secondly, it is important to note that this controversy is not about my position as Imam of Dar al-Hijrah but instead about the path that we want to take as a community moving forward. In order to grow, we must strengthen the line of communication between the community and the board and ensure that the board is not weakened or pressured by outside forces.
Finally, this blog is intended to support the community and assist my efforts in meeting its needs. Therefore, if you would like to contact me with questions or comments, you may use the contact page to reach me directly. You can also follow the blog by pressing the “Follow” button at the bottom right if you want to receive an email whenever there is a new post. Again, thank you and may Allah bless you and your family during these last few nights of Ramadan and beyond.
Sincerely Yours,
Imam Shaker Elsayed
